Sgt. Chris Fisher Obituary, WARM SPRINGS, Ga. — Sgt. Chris Fisher, a Warm Springs Police Department officer, has died after being fatally shot while serving his local area Tuesday night in Warm Springs, Georgia.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Fisher was killed at approximately 11:57 p.m. Tuesday. Investigators stated he was sitting in his patrol vehicle after completing an unrelated traffic stop when a black Chevrolet Silverado pulled alongside the vehicle.
Agencies identified the driver of the Chevrolet Silverado as 23-year-old Jimmy Lee Steverson. Investigators stated Steverson allegedly fired multiple shots into Fisher’s patrol vehicle before fleeing the scene. Fisher was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the shooting, the Georgia Bureau of Inquiry issued a statewide Blue Alert for Steverson, warning the public that he was considered armed and dangerous. Multiple law-enforcement agencies joined the search as officials worked to locate the suspect.
The search ended Wednesday in Anderson, South Carolina, where authorities located Steverson. Officials said he had suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and was taken to a local hospital, where he later lost his life.
Fisher’s loss has left the Warm Springs local area and his fellow officers mourning the loss of a member of the local law-enforcement community. His death also highlights the dangers officers face while carrying out their duties and responding to incidents in the communities they serve.
